Hello Everyone,
Now that Christmas is behind us, it’s time to take a look at what the new year may bring us in terms of the astrological transits that will be in effect. Today I’m going to deal with what I consider to be the top 3 astro events for 2012:
1. Mars retrograde cycle
2. Venus transit across the Sun
3. Uranus/Pluto square
Mars Retrograde
Mars will begin its 80 day retrograde cycle on January 24, 2012 at 23 Virgo and return to Direct motion on April 14, 2012 at 3 Virgo. So wherever Virgo is in your personal chart is where you are likely to see the effects of the retrograde.
Mars is the energy of action, forward motion, conflict and aggression/assertiveness. A retrograde planet always turns the energy of that planet to more inward focus. With Mars in retrograde motion then, we can expect that we will be more inclined to inner work than outer work, that we may feel inner conflict and be more apt to be passive aggressive than outright aggressive.
Virgo is a sign that is Practical, Analytical, Organized, Critical, and Perfection-seeking. While Mars is in this part of our charts we can expect some very down to Earth accomplishments and actions, but during the retrograde we will have to watch out for tendencies to be finicky, nit-picky or too critical of ourselves, others and the projects we may be working on. It is always a good idea to have an eye towards perfection, but taken to an extreme can lead us to not achieve anything. This will be a great time for using our critical analysis abilities toward perfecting something in our lives – just resist the urge to tear it all down because of one little imperfection.
Venus Transit Across the Sun
Venus is probably the most interesting planet in our solar system. Did you know that her surface temps are hotter than that of Mercury? And she’s not even as close to the Sun as Mercury is. She is also the only planet that revolves clockwise on her axis. Did you also know that Venus subscribes a perfect Pentagram in her orbital relationship with Earth? The Ancients knew this just from their observations of her complete cycle – and because she was such a dominant feature in the sky and predictable as to whether or not she was a morning star or evening star – the Pentagram became an important symbol to the early Earth/Nature religions. It wasn’t until the time of Christianity overcoming the Pagan religions that the symbol became one that was fraught with the negative connotations that we know of today
In June of 2004 Venus moved between the Earth and the Sun and her form was visible moving over the face of the Sun. This particular transit is a rare one occurring only every 121 years or so, and always comes in pairs spaced 8 years apart and always occurs in the sign of Gemini or Sagittarius. The first of the pair occurred on June 8, 2004 at 18 Gemini and the second will occur on June 5-6, 2012 at 16 Gemini. Venus in astrology has rulership over Relationships, Harmony, Beauty, the Arts, and Money. Gemini is a sign of Communication,Commerce and Networking.
If we look back over time at some of the changes that took place on the planet during or just after these Venus transits, we may be able to discern the direction this pair may be taking us:
1519 & 1526 – Magellan sails around the world proving that the Earth is not flat. Serious changes in our worldview come about because of this
1631 & 1639 – Mail service begins in Denmark and Sweden; the first printing press in the American colonies
1761 & 1769 – Astronomers observe and share information in the 1st cooperative communication project on a global scale; conditions were forming that would lead to the American Revolution
1874 & 1882 – Explosion of information sharing including newspaper, telephone, telegraph; the Panic of 1873 creates what is now known as the “Long Depression” and silver is no longer used to back our money in the US.
2004 – USA Today reports, “The long-term economic health of the United States is threatened by $53 trillion in government debts and liabilities that start to come due in four years (2008, which is when our current economic recession began – my words here) when baby boomers begin to retire.”; cell phone usage begins to overtake landline usage
I cannot even imagine where we will go from here in the communication fields – perhaps to telepathic communication or conversing with beings from the stars. But, it’s very obvious that these Venus transits have had an effect upon the economy/currency through the years. Might the upcoming transit sound the death knell to an economy that is long past its prime? We might even be able to explore options to the current economy – is a form of barter economy in the offing? Only time will tell as this Venus transits completes its work.
Uranus-Pluto Square (90 degree)
Uranus and Pluto have been two of the power players in astrology in 2011. You only have to look at the major Earth changes, weather patterns, and toppled governments to see what effect these two can have on the world. In 2012 they continue working their magic by forming a stressful 90 angle to each other called a square.
Uranus rules Revolution, Change, Freedom and the Unexpected! And, with Uranus in Aries (ruled by Mars) expect New Beginnings, Innovation, Independence, Rash Actions. Pluto rules Death/Rebirth (aka Transformation), Power and the Shadow side of anything, and while Pluto is in Capricorn expect the underbelly of large institutions like the Government, Corporations, Systems like HealthCare, the Economy and the Military to have their faults and shortcomings exposed. Uranus and Pluto in square work together to destroy, expose and rebirth something new and possible exciting – a new paradigm!
Because these two planets are so far away from Earth, their effects tend to be more generational than personal. However, each of us is undergoing our own Transformation with this transit based on their placements in our charts. I’ve seen and talked to a number of people who are experiencing a lot of turmoil in their lives recently, and I remind each of them that this all a part of their movement toward a personal “New Paradigm”.
Happy 2012 to all of you and I’m looking forward to an exciting New Year!!!
